Tallowwood

(Eucalyptus microcorys)

A large coastal hardwood from mid NSW to Central Qld. The heartwood is usually yellow-brown and may have a tinge of olive green. May have a “greasy” feel to it giving rise to its name.

A highly durable timber, Tallowwod has a complete absence of gum veins and was one of the most common timbers to be used on “dance’ floors in the past. Other uses include decking, cladding, posts and heavy structural members.
