National Arboretum

The National Arboretum in Canberra is a place that all Australians should visit at some time in their life.

Previously a tree plantation that was burnt out in the 2003 bushfires, the National Arboretum has risen from the ashes to become an important botanical seed bank. Many of the original trees have been regenerated with new gardens, sculptures, play grounds and learning spaces interspersed amongst them.

Timber has been extensively used throughout the buildings of this amazing project and Blackbutt beams, columns, decking and handrails used in the Visitors Centre were supplied by Austimber.

We predicted this project would feature well in construction industry awards; well it has already won in four categories of the 2013 Australian “Timber Design Awards” including: Overall Winner (Central Region), Australian Certified Timbers, Public Commercial Building and Engineered Timber Products and has also won the 2013 “Master Builders Association” Award for National Public Buildings ($10m – $50m)
